Equipped with a City & Guilds in Soft Furnishings where she learnt the traditional techniques of lampshade making, Caroline set up Caroline B Designs in 2006.
Fascinated by how creative you could be using fabrics, ribbons and trims, Caroline initially made a range of lampshades and sold them at local fairs and markets.
Her skills soon came to the attention of a local lighting company and she was commissioned to make shades for their lighting projects. As this work expanded, she was increasingly called upon by interior designers and by private clients looking for specialist skills in lampshade making. Business soon grew to provide a high-quality bespoke lampshade and restoration service to both commercial and private clients in London and throughout the UK, and with it came a move to a dedicated workshop space in Teddington, and subsequently to premises in Richmond upon Thames.
Caroline B Designs now has strong links with many of London’s leading interior designers as well as private residential clients.

I inherited two beautiful lamps that had travelled around the world with my parents for 50 years. Sadly by the time they came to me the lovely gold silk shades had started to fall apart with age and one of the frames was badly damaged. Nothing off the shelf came close to the shape or colour I wanted. I asked Caroline B Designs if they could copy the remaining frame and recover both with something close to the original. In the midst of the pandemic with all the associated difficulties they have done the most fantastic job. I cannot tell you how delighted I am to have them restored to their original glory (actually better than the original if truth be told).
